Meet our Science Consultant

Science Consultant
What does your role entail?
As a Science Consultant I spend the majority of my time working in academies across the federation. This could be teaching, developing schemes of work and resources, delivering CPD at all levels from trainees to principals, quality assurance of teaching and learning, writing materials for professional qualifications, or any number of other activities. As the Subject Lead for Science with Harris ITE, I coordinate the 10 subject day sessions that trainees receive (and deliver the Biology training). I also coordinate the subject specialist observations of trainees and ensure that trainees have access to a team of subject specialists to help them develop into brilliant Science teachers.
What are your credentials/experience to your current position?
Having graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2009, and worked in numerous roles in the city, I decided to train to teach via the School Direct programme. I then taught and managed departments across South London before joining the Harris Federation Science Consultant Team in 2018.
What is the highlight of your role?
As part of my role I have the opportunity to observe trainees in their academies across the Harris Federation. It is a real pleasure to watch our trainees grow and develop over the course of their training year, and I love nothing more than seeing previous trainees take on new roles in their academies.
Science Vs. – This is currently my favourite Science podcast for debunking Science myths. I’ve found it really useful to listen to and share ideas with my students (particularly for challenging ideas around the pandemic).
