Computer Science and Business Studies Consultant

Damian hegarty photo 1What does your role entail?

I work within three areas: teacher training, teacher consultancy and subject specific departmental management consultancy.  This entails working with trainees or ECTs offering guidance and support in their schools and delivering scheduled training via the programmes on offer.  With more experienced teachers and middle managers, I aim to support and offer subject specific consultancy that enhances their current work and satisfies whole school targets as well as cross federation policy.

What are your credentials/experience to your current position?

Experience mainly.  Over twenty years teaching Business, ICT and Computer Science including management roles as a HOD, HOF, Director of an ISC and having been seconded by the DfE to the European Commission. Having taught roughly 17000 classes, I hope that there’s relevant experience and pedagogical value to share.

What is the highlight of your role?

The application, putting ideas and advice into practice, of the consultancy role in the classroom. When a trainee takes on the advice and moulds it their way, to suit their style and preferences according to their audience, I enjoy seeing the positive outcomes that are really a product of great collaboration and effort.  The real end-beneficiary being the students.
