Meet the Principal: Nicola Graham, Executive Principal of Harris Academy Chafford Hundred

"I came into teaching from retail management."

After becoming a mother to three children, I began to take a real interest in education, and realised I would like to change to a career where I could really help children to be both successful academically and nurtured.  I have never regretted this decision; it was the best move I could have made and I felt bonded to the job immediately.

I have worked for Harris since Harris Academy Chafford Hundred became a Harris academy in 2011. I have just started work at Harris Academy Rainham as it joined the group in September, and will be working with the Free School in Purfleet in the near future.

I particularly enjoy the blending of high quality education with the business model of Harris. We have access to highly qualified professionals to support us in our mission to promote excellence in education and we have opportunities to network with other like-minded and driven principals. At Harris, we do not tolerate anything but the best for our students.

At Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, there is no ceiling on expectation for anyone and we will go to whatever lengths to make sure that all students can do their best. There is an expectation that all teachers will buy into this ethos. We are here for our students and they are at the heart of everything we do and every decision that we make. We are consciously dissatisfied all the time and always look for the small gains that will lead to even greater success.

If you are ambitious for children and for yourself, it is THE place to work. You will get great opportunities and we will not be happy until you are the best you can be, so that you can help our students be the best that they can be. We will have high expectations of you, but also for you, in that we will look after you well and provide a pleasant and productive working environment.

Because you will join the most successful and progressive academy Federation and you will become an excellent teacher, inspired by the key professionals who will guide you through your career. You will have a wealth of opportunities and experiences and work in a dynamic and orderly working environment.

My top three qualities when looking for a teacher:

A belief that all children can be successful with great teaching A willingness to “go the extra mile” Enthusiasm
