Yianni Dimitriadis

Computer Science Subject Lead and Computer Science Consultant

What does your role entail?

As a Computer Science Consultant, I work as part of the central School improvement team with the remit of improving the quality of teaching and learning in Computer Science and uptake at GCSE. The role involves leading the subject specific training of Harris Initial Teacher Trainees and Early Career Teachers, conducting observations, and providing developmental feedback. At a network level I support schools with adapting and implementing the Computer Science curriculum from KS3 to KS4. This is done through network coordinators meetings, whole federation inset days and in school's support. At a school level, I work with teachers and subject leads to build capacity into departments and improve the quality of teaching, through one-to-one coaching and mentoring.

What are your credentials/experience to your current position?

I have taught in academies and schools that serve disadvantaged communities and got into education through TeachFirst, pursuing the vision of not allowing a student’s outcome to be determined by their background or starting point. I have created and supported the implementation of the Computer Science curriculum in multiple schools from KS3-5 and mentored trainees and Early Career Teachers helping them achieve QTS and transition into middle leader roles. I am also an associate STEM facilitator, providing CPD on subject knowledge and pedagogy to teachers of all levels.

What is the highlight of your role?

A highlight of the roles is being able to see how different schools operate and being able to share best practice amongst academies, facilitating a collaborative and innovative network of Computer Science teachers.
